Obolers

An unexpected visitor to the moorage parking lot today. Sitting on stepping
stone in amongst the low growing plant material is a very cooperative juv.
COMMON NIGHTHAWK. I first thought it was a Common Poorwill but upon further
review of photos and reference books Nighthawk wins. It has remained on the
same stepping stone from 1000 until 1600 today. Many of my neighbors have
had good views and I with camera in hand was within 5 feet before it showed
some sign of agitation.

We are located on the south shore of Hayden Island (west end) near the large
parcel of land owned by the Port of Portland which is where they live and
nest. This is my first sighting of these birds any where around the
moorage in the 5 years we've lived here.

Also, a lone NORTHERN PINTAIL on Rest Lake at Ridgefield.
