OBOL,
    I agree completely with Phil.  There is a size discrepancy between 
California Gulls which visit the coast in the fall, and my opinion is that 
at least during some periods of time the larger, paler birds outnumber the 
smaller, darker ones.  They most certainly occur here in large numbers.
