> Deschutes Birding
> We spent the past weekend in Deschutes and Crook County hiking and birding.
> No rarities to report, some highlights below.
>
> At Smith Rocks: A late SAY'S PHOEBE was along the road just before entering the
> parking lot. Abundant TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES along the River Trail. Many CANYON
> WRENS above the River trail and along and at the top of Monkey Face trail.
> MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, HERMIT THRUSH, and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were also
> plentiful. CHUKARS were near the rim rock at the south end of the River Trail.
> We saw 27 species of birds in our 4.5 hours of hiking. A River Otter, Spotted
> Spreadwing damselfly, Northwestern Fritillary (hesperis) butterfly and Western
> Yellow-bellied Racer snake were amongst other creatures of note.
>
> We also visited the site south west of Bend reported by Diane Kook last May on
> OBOL. (.6 miles past Entrada Lodge just off Century Drive.) We found a single
> LEWIS'S WOODPECKER in our hour of walking and also a few other birds including
