Greetings all, it was indeed a great day to be birding..on our trip around Fern Ridge we got a great look at a Red-shouldered Hawk at Milepost 49 just off Hwy 126. It was on a stump in the marsh area, north of the Hwy. Way to go DUCKS!

Subject: [obol] Fern Ridge Birds Saturday pre-game

Obol,
While out and about today I noticed a few birds. There were 2 BLACK PHOEBES at the Corps office near the dam, they are suspected of breeding along the Long Tom Channel. Over the lake COMMON MERGANSERS AND various DUCK species have arrived in good numbers. The gull wad continues to grow, offering many ugly California's to study. There was an adult BALD EAGLE on the mud flats that soared into my scope view just before landing. Very cool. And the first TUNDRA SWANS have arrived, with at least a dozen being seen with the goose fly off this AM.
The chickadee flock today had many Kinglets of both species. At least a dozen or so Ruby's, which are now arriving in good numbers. Fox Sparrow and Hutton's Vireo and Hermit Thrush were also in the mix.
   Go DUCKS!
