[obol] Reason for WB Nuthatch decline?

Thanks to Lars, Dave, and Barbara for their replies. Despite the "Californication" of the Eugene area, I still find it odd that there are very few WBs in places like my neighborhod (near the Oakway Golf Course). Oaks and open space are abundant here. Despite hearing one up in the trees last week, I haven't seen a WB anywhere in my neighborhood since January.

I'm wondering if their natural (pre-sprawl) abundance in the southern Willamette Valley never was that high to begin with, and that development has had a more apparent impact on their population. They may be so historically-abundant in places like Connecticut and upstate New York (where everybody with a bird feeder sees them regularly) that loss of habitat has only managed to put a dent in their numbers (percentage-wise).
