Good morning Alan!

I can second this observation. Every summer my Pastor and his wife (who 
live in Cedar Valley, once Squaw Valley, up the Rogue River outside of 
Gold Beach) have over a dozen boxes filled with TREE SWALLOWS every 
summer. They have the same configuration as your description, a box on 
each side of a 4x4 post. However, in one spot in the garden, they have a 
total of 6 within a 8 foot span. They are all full boxes come breeding 
time.
