Hello Oboloids,
Last night I was entertained as it were by owls outside. Hoots, or more like 'tooks' pronounced as in I took that away... repeated, getting more rapid but not running together, up to about a dozen at a time. Also had a nice tookish trill that was done occasionally instead. When the GREAT HORNED OWLS hooted, these tookies shut up quickly, but returned soon after to tooking away at each other... so my guess is they were smaller then the GHO. My guess is a PYGMY OWL or SCREECH OWL, but my house-mate is convinced it must be bigger due to the tone of the call... I think the idea is a little tiny own makes a little tiny sound. What's your ideas for an owl here outside Dallas, 700tf elev. mixed large doug fir and oak woodland, broken with pastures. I have seen GHO and SAWWHET OWLS, heard BARRED OWLS and BARN OWLS, and know it wasn't them. Any place I can go on the web to hear owls call?
Thanks for the help
All the best
Andrew
