At 8:30AM today a 1st winter FRANKLIN'S GULL was flying near the Smith Lake
(Portland) boat launch area.
Shortly afterwards on the paved path between the lakes, about 20 yards
before there is a trail to the left that goes to the Smith Lake blind, there
was a nice collection of black and white birds. There were several
Black-capped Chickadee with a female BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER and a male
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER.
There also were a total of 141 GREAT EGRETS with 39 on Bybee and 102 on
Smith Lake.
Bybee has excellent shorebird habitat but I only found LEAST SANDPIPERS,
SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS, and KILLDEER.
