All,
I went out and checked the area where Floyd Schrock found the mass of Barn Swallows west of Vancouver this morning in a scout trip for an evening attempt. Mile Marker 9 on Lower River Rd is between the last conservation area parking lot and Fazio Bros. Sand Pit. If you are heading out there, I would recommend strongly getting a conservation area parking permit and availing yourself of the parking area about 200 or 300 yards south of the MM. DO NOT park in Fazio Bros area. The corn close to the road has been harvested, but Floyd suggested that the flock was further in. Corn is being actively harvested in much of the area in anticipation of hunting season.

I did not get out there until about 8 am this morning, but there were more Barn Swallows between Frenchman's Bar park and MM( than I have ever seen. Probably had 150-200 along this stretch of road, and many heading out to the lake. Did have about a dozen Greater White-fronted Geese of the Tule Goose variety just south of Frenchman's Bar (really big brown White-fronts as big as the local Canadas) and 40 Egrets and 50 Great Blue Herons in the first pond on the right after you get on Lower River (where Wilson Cady reported these the past few days)
