Today while coming home from the Alvord desert I saw what looked like a White-winged Dove north of the Alvord Ranch. It was rummaging among the willows that line the road. As I passed it flew up and over the willows. Just to make sure of my identification I checked Sibley's. The tail was rounded not pointed. There are other doves in the area as it is a marshy area with water and grass available. A perfect haven for birding. To reach the area take Hwy 78 out of Burns toward Burns Jct., this in Harney county. Take the Mann Lake-Fields Rd. It is about 25 miles from the turn. The willows line the road for approximately 1/2 mile.
We had a Red-breasted Nuthatch visit us in Aug. Unfortunately it hit the window trying to evade the Brown-headed Cowbirds that were harassing it. Also have had a Calliope Hummingbird at the flower pots.
