Mid-day birding was good today in Clackamas County with the wind and temperature both lowered. At Camassia Natural area in West Linn I saw a bright female BULLOCK'S ORIOLE near top of a Madrona tree slowly nipping berries. I wouldn't have seen her at all if a Chickadee hadn't given her a scolding. This sighting was along the the loop trail near the freeway cliff. Many other local birds were around too.
At Molalla River SP I encounter two PILEATED WOODPECKERS. They were doing very loud stereo pecking on adjacent Douglas Fir trees. I had never seen the species before at the park, but did have a sighting 2 years ago a few miles away near HWY 99E and South End Road.
