Hi Folks,
After a meeting at work this morning, I headed out to Baskett Slough NWR. I really needed to get out, get some air and walking in. Went to Morgan Lake (Dry) and found an adult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at the dam. I walked to the middle slough where there were a few dowitchers, peeps, and a handful of Semi-palmated Plovers. I drove around after that, ate lunch and ended up back at the refuge and walked the butte trail. There was a nice flock of migrants that included: 2 TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS (I don't recall any records on the refuge come to think of it.......) 3 BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS, 3 HUTTON'S VIREOS, 10-12 BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES, 2 WHITE BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 4 BROWN CREEPERS, 4 JUNCOS, 2 WESTERN WOOD PEWEES. I parked at the narrows for an hour to kill some time afterwards where there were about 12 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS, 2 KILLDEER, 1 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, 30+/- LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 SNIPE, AND ABOUT 45 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, AND 5 LEAST SANDPIPERS. It was quite windy, but still warm enough to be enjoyable.
