[obol] confusing fall bird

Need help to try and ID this bird.

Slightly smaller than a towhee, many of the same mannerisms, overall a 
soft brownish gray bird,  dark eye, gray cheek, faint rufous stripes on 
head, pink legs, faintly yellowish under the rump, perhaps some faint 
streaking on the side of the breast, two faint wing bars, bill not truly 
finch-like or sparrow like, dark, longer and thinner.  The bird also 
raised a small crest.  Tail as long or perhaps slightly longer than the 
body.

Sitting on my feeder and it "warbled" at me, sotto voce.  It then flew 
over to the blackberries and ate there for a while, came back to the 
feeder and dropped to the ground.  Holds its tail normally and does not 
flick it.

Any thoughts?
