Thanks to all the wonderful people who replied.

The answer:  California towhee

Not something I expected to see here, but I knew it was a towhee and it 
wasn't a spotted towhee.  The Cornell description sold me because it was 
the warble that made me really look at the bird.  I thas been around for 
several days and I knew it was different.  Just too busy canning to take 
a real look.  I am so glad I did.

I could not believe a towhee could warble!  It was so lovely, very, very 
soft, and incredibly musical.  I doubt you'd hear it more than ten feet 
away.

I am so glad to have another wonderful visitor here.
