I walked a big chunk of Gearhart Beach Saturday after being shown
a photo taken with a cell phone that looked like it could have
been a dead Long-tailed Jaeger. I was unable to find a definitive
match to the picture I was shown and the photographer did not
think the hatch-year Western Gull I found was the same bird that
was in his photo.
More unusual were the 12 dead NORTHERN FULMARS I found in the .5km
stretch I covered. This seems like a lot of fulmars for September
All appeared to be recently deposited, 11 were gray-phase, 1 white-
phase.
Also found:
Brandt's Cormorant 1
Western Gull 1
California Gull 2
Common Murre 2
