Thursday morning I watched 2 Lesser Yellowlegs explore a culvert in Amazon Creek, close to the Albertson's near Chambers Ave--they temporarily lit down next to a group of Mallards, which looked very large and lumpy next to the slender Yellowlegs. The Lesser Yellowlegs called a lot to each other. I was surprised to see them in such a compromised environment--lots of human activity and pretty poor water quality there.

Several days ago I was kayaking near the mouth of the Coquille River across from the town of Bandon. I had pulled up for a stop by a sandy beach and got to watch a Marbled Godwit circle around and then land close by to me on a sandy point where a large group of gulls were hanging out. The Marbled Godwit hardly moved once it landed and at one point, turned its head around so that its beak was resting across its back, and took a nice nap in the sun.
