I spent the day on Bonney Butte yesterday (Wed.). It was shirtsleeve weather and the raptor flight was slow and spurty ( a new word I think). I don't have the final count but unless there was a big surge after I left it was around 50 birds, mostly Sharp-shinned, Coopers, & Red -tails with a good group of TVs.
The best birds for me was watching a bunch of Vaux's Swifts with a Black Swift flying along with them. This was my second ever Black Swift sighting and both this year.
ECBC will be conducting the Green Ridge Hawk Migration Count again this weekend. We meet at Indian Ford Campground (5 miles west of Sisters) at 8:00 AM and carpool to the site. Bring warm cloths, Binos, and a chair. Mother Nature will provide the entertainment.
