[obol] hawk ID help?

OK - I feel like a jackass, but need to ask anyhow.

Yesterday, a hawk was calling all around the property, from behind the
chicken coop, across through the two-acre dog run, down by the barn,
back up the hill, seemingly making a big circle around the small amount
of open space we have.

It sounded like a Cooper's hawk but much more measured, nowhere near as
rapid as Cooper's nor as shrill as a sharpie. I caught a glimpse of a
Cooper-sized gray bird as it flew down into the driveway for a moment,
then disappeared into the trees. Tried and tried to get a good look at
the bird but was never successful.

The chickens were loose yesterday as well. I do have regular Cooper's
and sharpies around all year.

I am thinking goshawk, but would one be around here? I may have seen
one when I was a teenager, but certainly not since then. Back east,
they are pretty darned rare. After the comments about look for the
usual, not the unusual, with which I agree entirely, I am hesitant to
think this might have been a goshawk.

Thoughts? thanks. Ann outside Myrtle Creek
