Saw a large flock of Varied Thrush off Hwy 30, on the
Burnside loop, just before the eagle sanctuary. I
didn't see any eagles, bur a Red-tailed Hawk showed up
to say hello. Cool extra drive on this trip. I also
saw 11 Hooded Merganser on the drive. Many water
foul, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets on the route
from Portland to Astoria. Western Grebe, Greater
Scaup, Bufflehead, American Kestrel, Turkey Vulture,
American Coot, Mallards, and Canada Geese are some of
the more prevalent birds out on the roadside. Great
fun for a day trip. You can detour off to Sauve
Island too, lots of Wood Ducks out now!
