[obol] Osprey

Hi Bettye. I can't help but think these are the same birds year after year. Its true I don't really know. Over the past 4 or five years warehouses have been built in close proximity (almost directly under) the nest and somehow through it all the birds raise their young and ignore the commotion.
I've also noticed people with cameras visiting the nest site, photographing the unconcerned occupants of the nest. During the summer you can almost be guaranteed the opportunity to watch Osprey hunting on the Columbia River Slough or on the pond west of the canoe launch. I've noticed that they hunt with the sun behind them. I wonder how they keep their shadow from giving them away?
One other thing I noticed in past years is that their are three Osprey tending the nest. I should do some more reading, I'm guessing that at least one of the nestlings returns the next year to help with the current year's brood.
