[obol] osprey nests in DougCo

Since I moved here I have routinely monitored five osprey nests along
the South Umpqua. For my first two years, all were occupied.

Sadly, things have changed. The power company destroyed the nest at
Boomer Hill. I saw both birds sitting forlornly atop the naked power
pole about a week ago. The bridge is being rebuilt there and the birds
have disappeared, although I did see a few sticks added to the pole
yesterday.

The nest at the RV Park is there, but I have not seen any birds this year.

The nest in the lumber yard at Round Prairie (the one that grew the crop
of hay) is occupied and it seems that eggs are being incubated. Both
birds are present, with one sitting low on the nest at all times.

The nest on the light pole in the lumber yard at Green was also taken
down and I have not seen any birds.

Need to check the last one - a nest in the Sun Studs yard. I looked
from across the river yesterday but did not see any birds.

Not a good year for osprey along the South Umpqua. One more nest to
check up by Winston, but I don't get by there too often.
