I just saw the most brilliant orange-crowned warbler that I have ever
seen. It was feeding on the birch tree outside my office window,
and I got great looks. First, it was much more brightly yellow
than average, but that is not what caught my attention. It had a
very visible orange crown, which is also somewhat unusual to see in
the field, but even that is not what was the most interesting
feature. This bird also had an orange wash on the throat just below
the bill! It was almost fluorescent looking, and the same color as
the color on the crown. I have never seen this before.
