Cracked corn has attracted a growing flock of BAND-TAILED PIGEONS, yesterday over 40. This has attracted the attention of a large
acccipter again, who took a bird out of the flock and disappeared into the trees before we could determine whether it was a large
Cooper's or a N. Goshawk, which we have had in past years. We'll have to keep an eye on our ersatz hawk feeder, as there has been
a COHA frequenting our yard this year.
A subadult GOLDEN EAGLE also flew over mid-morning, on its way north from somewhere. We rarely see the nearby nesting Bald Eagles,
which apparently don't hunt the forests to their south, but did see two full adult plumaged BAEA several weeks ago flying together
here, likely the nesting pair.
And an evening walk at Willamette Park, south Corvallis, yielded our f.o.y. COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, plus a mobbery of Steller's Jay
harrassing a GREAT-HORNED OWL, and many passerines of all types.
good birding,
