[obol] fascinating finch behavior or behaviour

Just washing up the dishes and looking out at our big cherry tree in
full bloom outside the kitchen window.

Suddenly, my entire flock of Cassin's finches (about 25 birds) descended
on the tree. They spread out and each bird worked down a branch,
picking off the blossoms at the base where they attach to the stem,
apparently pinching off the ovary and eating it, then dropping the
petals on the ground.

No wonder I never get any cherries from this tree! They will have every
blossom off in no time!

I have never seen this behavior before. Any one else?
