Subject: Yellow Winged Blackbirds at PIR/Vanport Wetlands
Hi OBOLers!
A friend of mine, Salvez Dodd, was out at the Portland International
Raceway/Vanport Wetlands a few weeks ago and got a few excellent shots of
what appear to be Yellow-Winged Blackbirds. Please see photos here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/salvezdodd (there are 3 different shots of them
among several others). She says the birds were in a pair (so at least 2 of
them and maybe more?)
I myself have never seen these and I am curious to know how common/uncommon
this plumage is? Is this simply a variant of our Red-Wing Blackbirds or are
they distinct? I've seen Yellow-headed blackbirds for sure but never this
Yellow-wing variation. Any insight would be so welcome!
Thanks in advance for your input!
