A cold west wind this afternoon at Fern Ridge. I walked the perimeter of the
south-most pond, entering at the HWY 126 Fir Butte entrance. A bright
EURASION WIDGEON was swimming among the usual assortment of ducks in the
southcentral part of the pond. Highlights included 10 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS--most, if not all, seemed to be paired--which, along with 1 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, were hanging out in the grassy margins of the south side of the
pond. The water along the north perimeter is pretty deep at this point for
shorebirds. Also, several pairs of CINNAMON TEAL, lots of swallows,
including 3 BARN SWALLOWS ( not much more than the first one I saw for the
season at Fern Ridge on April 11). I also heard 1 SORA.
