Hi,
Joline Shroyer from Portland telephoned that she saw a pair of LAPLAND
LONGSPURS along the Yaquina Bay South Jetty this morning (4/28) at about
11:15 AM. They were briefly on the rocks between the widest parking area
and the channel. They flew east along the South Jetty.
My notes from Joline's description are that they were sparrow-like and
sized. The male had a black face, throat, and breast; a white line curved
back from the eye and down back towards the front of the neck to the
throat, and chestnut-brown came from the back across the shoulders. It had
a light-colored bill, a white belly, and a streaked back. Joline did not
see the back of the head, the flanks of the belly to see if there were
streaks, or the tail feathers. It did not have any yellow feathers.
The female had a streak over the eye and a white throat.
Joline may have more details.
Cheers,
Range Bayer
