Tim,

Thanks for going the proverbial extra mile on this one.  In Boise, each
winter we also see a few birds with a yellow "X" marking (*B.c.moffitti*),
that I presume to be from Washington.

Although it now seems that the bird in question is most likely not a
long distance migrant, I do still believe that "flocking waterfowl" have a
much greater probability of moving across 'subspecies boundaries" than birds
that are more solitary in their associations and movements.
