Drove up to snowy Wallowa County this morning and found the following birds:

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW on School Flat Rd hanging with a flock of 7 Horned
Larks. A single SNOW BUNTING feeding along the shoulder of Golf Course Rd
where it crests the top of the hill. A small flock of GRAY PARTRIDGE also on
Golf Course Road in the ranch yard just north of the intersection with School
Flat Rd.

Also saw an interesting interaction between an immature Golden Eagle and a
White Tailed Deer while driving on Jim Town Rd between Wallowa and Lostine.
The eagle was repeatedly diving on and occasionally striking what appeared to
be a yearling White Tail that was by itself somewhat cornered in the steep
rimrock. The deer was clearly bothered by the eagle and frantically attempted
to allude it's pursuer. Eventually the eagle gave up the chase as the deer
managed to run to more open ground where the eagle apparently had no advantage.

Other birds - Bald Eagles, Prairie Falcon, Rough Legged Hawks, Pine Siskins,
American Goldfinches, Townsend Solitaire, Common Mergansers (many on Fish
Hatchery pond). Could find no waxwings of either species.

Good Birding,

Craig Bennett
