Sorry for the late posting, but the important information got out
immediately when Dave Irons posted the highlights on Jan 26.

Here are the totals for the Lane County Route #1, which generally is the
area surrounding Fern Ridge Reservoir and lying between Cantrell Rd./Hwy.
126 on the south, Territorial Rd./Alvadore Rd. on the west, Hwy. 36/Franklin
Rd. on the north, and Greenhill Rd./Fir Butte Rd./Fisher Rd. on the east.

Here are the totals for Jan 26, 2008 and the totals for approximate same
dates from approximately one year earlier (Jan. 6, 2007 and February 10,
2007).

Red-tailed Hawk 38 (30 and 22)

American Kestrel 20 (21 and 15)

Northern Harrier 5 (17 and 12)

Bald Eagle 30 – 16 adult/14 imm. – (10 -5 ad./5 imm. on Jan 6, 2007 and 11 –
6 ad./5 imm. on Feb. 10, 2007)

Rough-legged Hawk 3 (1 and 2)

Red-shouldered Hawk 3 (4 and 2)

White-tailed Kite 7 (12 and 4)

Merlin 0 (0 and 1)

Peregrine Falcon 0 (1 and 0)

Prairie Falcon 1 (0 and 0)

Cooper’s Hawk 0 (0 and 1)

Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 (0 and 0)

Turkey Vulture 0 (3 and 0)

Comments: I think this is the highest Bald Eagle count we have had on this
route. This probably resulted from easier viewing since many were standing
on the frozen part of Fern Ridge Res. and viewed from the dam area. Our
previous high number was 17 on February 11, 2006.

I think it is a low Northern Harrier count for this route as well. We had 4
in November 2007. It seems unbelievable that we had 53 NOHA on November 26,
2005!

Observers: Dave Irons, Jenny Brown, Anne Heyerly, Dan Heyerly

Weather: mid-30s and raining

Time and Distance: 5 hours and 64 miles.

That’s it.
