Seth and Michelle, Nay Sayers, Doubting Thomases, Fence Sitters,
Wishers, and Hopers, and Prayers,

It seems to me there might be a reasonable approach to the Wentit
mystery, non-mystery, lightning strike out of area rarity, funky
Bushtit, whatever.

1) In spite of the fact that the book "Birds of Oregon, a General
Reference" by Dave Marshall, Alan Contreras and Matt Hunter, on page
490, mentions

A) "unverified reports from Washington Co. and Columbia Co."

as well as

B) "Reports from the Portland area (Jobanek 1975, 1976) are
unconfirmed (Harry Nehls)"

Wrentit remains a possibility, however remote.

2) This sighting occurred in Seth and Michelle's back yard. I might
suggest that Seth and Michelle's attentive watching of their yard birds
in the immediate future, with whatever binoculars, scopes, and cameras
that can be kept at hand, might go a long way toward resolving the
issue one way or another, be they Wrentits, funky Bushtits, or some
other Winged visitors.

As already pointed out, Wrentits rarely move far, so it seems that if
they are in Seth and Michelle's yard, they might be able to be seen
again with a more definitive outcome.
