Many thanks to all who shared their knowledge either on-line or
off-line with respect to the Red-breasted Sapsucker activity I observed
Saturday at Ridgefield NWR.

The Unanimous response proves the Red-breasted Sapsucker was indeed
flycatching insects for its own sustenance, rather than "strutting its
stuff" for potential mates.

As usual OBOL and Tweeters do a lot to educate not only puzzled
individuals like myself, but additional readers in the birding
community at large.

In my excitement at seeing new behavior, I was too quick to conclude,
and I clearly neglected to factor in the moderate temperature of the
day on Saturday, and the noticeable amount of insect activity.

Today there were two TREE SWALLOWS in the same general vicinity, and
they seemed to be finding food quite easily, even though today was
cooler.

Thanks again to all responding educators,
