In addition to some of the submitted counts being incorrect, I don't believe that this picture from the Photo Gallery was taken in mid-February in New Jersey...

And speaking of the GBBC, about 20 minutes after I submitted my checklist, I saw 3 PURPLE FINCHES (two males and either a female or first-year male) at my sunflower tube feeder. Two of them came back about a half hour later. These are the first I've seen in my yard since October.

I think the Backyard Birdcount is great, but I'm not excited about bogus
counts and I have reported the one from the Ochoco National Forest (where
someone reports, among other birds, 78 Common Murres. Our Oregon count
reviewer is David Bailey at email address baileydc AT pdx.edu
Contact David if you have knowledge of a bogus Backyard Bird Count, but use
