We had a fun, birdy GBBC today at on Bayocean Spit. We had 61 species at Bayocean Spit. Highlights:
Bayside and South Jetty:
2 EARED GREBES
3 CLARKâS GREBES
2 BARROWâS GOLDENEYES (In Tillamook Bay on drive to Bayocean Spit)
14 Semipalmated Plovers
8 Black Turnstone (jetty)
40+ Sanderlings
1 Western Sandpiper
1 Least Sandpiper
3 Dunlin
2 ROCK SANDPIPERS (jetty)
11 WRENTITS (seen and/or heard)
2 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS (singing, near the parking lot)
1 RIVER OTTER (We watched it swim to the shore, climb up to some sand and vigorously and frantically rub its chest on the sand several times. It seemed to be dragging its chest awkwardly on the sand. It then scampered up a rocky beach, clambered over some driftwood and loped into the dense woods.) Anyone have an idea of what could have been going on?
Beach Side:
2 SEA-LIONS (one was riding the surf, which was a treat to watch)
Good birding!
