Greetings, Obolists!

I know many of us have seen various species of birds engaged in flycatching. But this morning I saw a first for me: CEDAR WAXWINGS engaged in berry catching. After the local mob of robins and waxwings had pretty much cleaned out our Catoneaster, there remained a few scattered berries on the very ends of twigs, out of the reach of any perch. A few enterprising waxwings then fluttered out to in front of the remaining berries and picked them while airborne, one berry to each sortie! The robins had long since given up.

Also of note: we've had up to 10 EVENING GROSBEAKS the last few days in our Eugene/Santa Clara back yard. Three days ago we had 5 of the 6 expected/likely finches for the Williamette Valley, missing only Lesser Goldfinch, which we do get regularly. On this same day we detected 28 species in, over or from out yard! In the past two weeks I've detected fly-over COMMON RAVENS on four separate occasions. We usually see only 1-2 for a whole year at our location.
