My daughter heard Sandhill Cranes on Monday evening at 10:30 as they were
croaking overhead and heading north at our place near Silverton. Nice
moonlit night for a migration. Correlates with other night time observations
in the valley for the cranes. So much for my afternoon theory. I listened
and looked all afternoon and nothing out there that I could see/hear.

I went with a Salem group to Brownsmead yesterday just in case the Arctic
Loon was maybe still around. No loons observed. We checked around 9:30 AM
for quite a period of time and also again at around 2:15 PM. We saw single
Sandhill Cranes in the Brownsmead area and also at the old Rainier nuclear
plant site. (They look like Ultralights when they come soaring down.Sort of
startling size compared to the geese, ducks and other birds.) We also had a
good time seeing a pair of White-tailed Kites at Brownsmead and Wrentits at
Ft Stevens.

Good Birding,
John Thomas
