Spent Saturday afternoon walking the dikes at Fern Ridge. Lots of TREE
SWALLOWS and fly-catching YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. Watched a juvenile
NORTHERN HARRIER devouring a good sized prey--couldn't see what it was but
it took awhile to consume it. Also saw an adult male NORTHERN HARRIER ( I
haven't seen a male in quite awhile at Fern Ridge) hunting the fields north
of the Royal Ave parking lot, near the gated entrance. A group of about
8-10 RUDDY DUCKS were still hanging out with all the COOTS in the pond just
south of the Observation Platform. Had great looks at an AMERICAN BITTERN
in the doughnut shaped pond just below the Observation Platform. Lots of
singing birds made it sound like spring even though the chilly fog pretty
much hung in there.
