Angled is the way to go!  I have the Leica 77 APO Televid scope with the angled, 20-60x eyepiece.  Excellent scope with amazing clarity, ample lighting under low light conditions (especially in Oregon weather), and the fine course adjustment comes in quite handy.   
 
It is great to digiscope with and easy during change-overs for someone else without doing too much adjustment to the tripod.  I suggest getting a very STABLE tripod with all this weight and glass.  This also helps reduce vibration for better digiscope photos.
