Obol,
I walked from Royal Ave to the platform then down and around cell #1,
finishing by passing along the west side of Redhead Pond. My goal was to
look for shorebirds, which I found few:
1 - ad WESTERN SANDPIPER
6 - GREATER YELLOWLEGS all adults starting to molt wing coverts into basic
plumage in Redhead Pond
also had Spotted Sandpiper and Killdeer

I tracked down all the rare summer ducks, highlights:
1 - N SHOVELER
pair of GREEN-WINGED TEAL
2+ pair of GADWALL
many REDHEAD
many BLUE-WINGED TEAL (very good year for them)

Other notables:
Many AM WHITE PELICAN
Good numbers of BLACK TERNS west of the platform
1 - CASPIAN TERN with the roosting pelicans
5 - GREAT EGRET all in spectacular breeding plumes (species becoming annual
in July)
2 - BLACK-NECKED STILTS Redhead Pond
1 - PEREGRINE FALCON

On Saturday I saw a pair of WILSON'S PHALAROPES in the dried up pond #2 just
north of Hwy 126. There is an intake pumping water into the dry ploughed
field, where the birds were. This spot looks great for fall shorebirds.
