Having read Don Albright's report of hearing a Red-eyed Vireo at the Grand
Island site, I returned today (7-5-08) for another try. I did hear one
singing at apparently the same place along the trail that Don described.
Then when I got back out to the the trail entrance, I heard another one
singing maybe one hundred fifty feet in from the road. It sang
intermittently for the next hour, and the episodes of singing seemed to
correspond to the brief periods of slightly brighter light filtering through
the clouds. There weren't many of those, and I was able to get only one
brief glimpse of the bird.

Also from the same spot I heard two other vireo species singing: Hutton's
and Warbling. I managed to spot the Warbling Vireo just as it went to it's
nest about 30 ft. high in a Cottonwood tree across the road from the trail.
The photo at the blog address below may be interesting to some as an exhibit
of the kind of nest site this species chooses.
