[obol] Mt St Helens question

Hi Bill,

The Johnston Ridge Observatory (National Monument) has been open for some weeks, after the road into it was plowed (Wa Hwy 504), accessed from Castle Rockand the west. The Windy Ridge (east side of Mt. St. Helens and blast zone) side, accessed from the south, east or north, is still closed due to snow on the road. Researchers working in the blast zone this summer have to backpack in from JRO, until the Windy Ridge road is opened. I don't know whether lack of funding for the USFS road plowing or for the Windy Ridge interpretive sites is limiting, but the snow remains.

  Hi Folks,
I heard recently that the main visitors center, on the west side of Mt St Helens was closed due to lack of funding. Anyone know if this is true? Some friend of mine from Germany are hoping to go there this September, so it would be good if I could relay some accurate info. thanks

  Bill
