OBOL,
I couldn't find the RED-HEADED WOODPECKER today. However, a tight schedule with kingbirds kept me from visiting the place where I originally found it at very conducive times. The first time was 5 am (barely light out), the second was at 2 pm and the heat was keeping almost all bird activity down. It may be gone, but to be optimistic, Lewis' Woodpeckers that I see on the refuge stick around for several days (and off the top of my head the two species belong to the same genus). There is also lots of food around (both flying insects and fruit, if I remember correctly RHWPs include a bit of fruit in their diet). Therefore, I will keep trying to find whenever I get the chance and post as to my success. Keep your fingers crossed. Good birding.
Luke Redmond
