Hi All,
Today at Snagboat Bend (a portion of Finley NWR on the Willamette River in Linn Co) at least 2 LONG-EARED OWL fledglings were seen. They were barely able to fly and confirms breeding in the immediate area. The Birds of Oregon makes states that the breeding distribution of this species in western Oregon is not well known making this a really cool record (5 or so previous summer records in the Willamette Valley as of 2003).
For those of you out there interested in seeing these birds, the portion of the refuge where these birds were seen is not accessible to the public. Sorry.
Good Birding,
Joe
