Just got back from visiting family in CT. In between family obligations, I managed to sneak in some casual birding at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield and on my in-laws' wooded lot. In addition to the usual Eastern "yard birds", I managed to see a handfull of others, including WILD TURKEY, EASTERN PHOEBE, BROWN CREEPERS, RB NUTHATCHES (less common in the deciduous woods out there), WOOD THRUSHES, VEERY, GRAY CATBIRDS, COMMON YELLOWTHROATS (including a female without a tail), and countless CHIPPING SPARROWS. It was nice to see some species native to that side of the country again.
The house that my in-laws purchased a few years ago came with a decorative feeder and bird house next to the patio door. I never thought that any bird would nest there, but apparently I was wrong...

This pair of CAROLINA WRENS didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that their nest was only 2' from the sliding glass door or the rather loud and busy cookouts that we had on the patio. As long everyone stayed about 6' away, they happily continued to bring insects to their young. I never knew that wrens were so tolerant of human activity.
Cheers,
Brandon
