I did a little birding around Crook County today. I concentrated on the
main water features. My best find was a molting male ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK. The bird was on North Shore Rd. at the eastern edge of Prineville
Reservoir. The grosbeak responded to pishing. This is the first time I
have seen this species in the county.
I also found 3 BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS and 2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS.
The Orange-crowned Warblers were found in the same location where I found
two birds a couple of weeks ago which makes me wonder if they bred there.
That would be unusual. I found good numbers of peeps at Ochoco Reservoir
and the Prineville Sewer Ponds. There was 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, and 16 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS also at the Prineville Sewer
Ponds.
