On 7/15, I found some cavity nesting PURPLE MARTINS up in the Coast Range near the booming metropolis of Remote. The clearcut is on private land and the martins are using holes in some huge madrone snags, pretty cool. I think it's only the second colony I've found in Coos Co. Over the past five years or so I have also found 6+ colonies in Curry Co. on BLM lands or adjacent private lands and one in Douglas Co.

This is the best year ever for nesting WILSON'S PHALAROPES on the north spit of Coos Bay. On 7/16 there were 18 juvies and one adult present (the lone adult is probably still on a nest). Also presnt shorebird wise were:
180- WESTERN SANDPIPERS
20- LEAST SANDPIPERS
21- LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS
6- SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS
2- WHIMBREL
2- GREATER YELLOWLEGS

Happy birding!
