Hi Birders. On Thursday the 17th, Ryan Terrill and I had one adult Baird's Sandpiper in full alternate plumage along with 150 or so Western Sandpipers on the south jetty of the Umpqua River in Winchester Bay. In the neat little triangular bay or whatever it is formed by the two jetties were 65 or so Elegant Terns and ~700 Heermann's Gulls.
During Marbled Murrelet surveys on the 16th, 17th and 18th, we also had almost 1000 White-winged Scoters. They were rafting up in massive flocks, especially off Lincoln City, where we had one flock of ~75 and another of ~200, and south of the Umpqua River, where we had two flocks of 50, one of 60 and one flock of ~250 individuals.
Good birding,
Matt Brady
