Columbia Estuary Report - 7/22/2008
The most recent ELEGANT TERN reports are two seen on Sunday evening
by Lee Cain. Efforts yesterday and today produced no Elegant Terns.
And yes, juvenile CASPIAN TERNS have yellow legs contra Sibley.
A TRUMPETER SWAN was photographed by Ron Pittard on the Necanicum
this morning. It was not relocated in the afternoon. Bait fish in
the near ocean have attracted big numbers of HEERMAN'S and CALIFORNIA
GULLS at Seaside Cove.
Steve Warner reports at least 6 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS along Lewis and
Clark Rd.
A juvenile GREAT HORNED OWL was with an adult at Reed Ranch near
West Lake. A BLACK PHOEBE was in the same area about 10 days ago.
In flower news: the HARVEST LILIES are in bloom. Look also for
FOOL'S ONION, INDIAN PIPE and SEASIDE REIN-ORCHID in Coastal Prairie
sites.
