OBOL and Klamath Basin Bird News,

I get news about birds for this area, and this note I received today I found interesting since it contains an observation of confirmed breeding for Acorn Woodpecker in Klamath County, away from the Klamath River Canyon. News or comments like this helps add to the depth our of knowledge for birds. It's neverending! Kevin Spencer, rriparia at charter.net

.... (At Running Y Ranch/Resort, a developed area in an oak woodland habitat area near Klamath Falls, near the southwestern shore of Upper Klamath Lake, there's been)a regular pair of Acorn Woodpeckers since early spring. Then they started visiting our nut feeder
with great frequency, carrying off nuts so I suspected some nestlings but
couldn't find the nest. Well, they are now bringing around the juveniles to
our yard and still feeding them, but also encouraging them to land on the
nut feeder as well. One has figured it out! There are at least two kids
and possibly three - all males. Its just hard to see them all at the same
time to be sure! The kids are fairly big - the red on the head is not as
brilliant and they do not yet have the white eye. Fun to watch!
