[obol] coastal white-headed WP question

Have always suspected that White-headed Woodpeckers were (some what rarely)
along Burnt Ridge in Curry County. The area is somewhat open with large,
scattered Sugar Pines (pretty similar to their normal-looking habitat). A
person (who was a better than average birder) reported seeing one alone this
ridge some 15 or so years ago. Also, there was a sugar pine cone that had
rows pecked down it (the remaining part of the cone scales intact). It was
not a squirrel because the tree had a squirrel guard on it (selected USFS
tree). Seem to remember reading that White-headed Woodpeckers pecked rows
down sugar pine cones to get to the seeds.
